Water Surge Pricing

Ofwat is currently considering introducing surge pricing on water in times of insecurity and drought. Billpayers are set to be rinsed, once again, for using an essential resource thanks to a useless regulator. This has come at a time when yearly water bills have increased by an average of 31%. Thames Water currently loses 592 million litres of water a day through leaks, a quarter of its supply. If profitability is the issue, Thames Water should reinvest into its infrastructure and stop those leaks.

Andy Burnham has said that increases in water bills are “real money out of family budgets at a time when they are struggling with the cost of living.” Mr Burnham should stand by his words and refuse to allow such unfair price increases. Local people should not be having to choose between buying food or using water. Hardworking families are already being forced to cough up £3.4 billion to fix the broken water network that executives have neglected for decades. There must be no more blank cheques for failure.
