Standing up for better South Western Railway services

More than 650 residents shared their experiences of unreliable trains, overcrowding and reduced services as part of Munira Wilson MP’s SWR timetable survey.

Twickenham MP Munira Wilson has submitted the findings of her South Western Railway (SWR) timetable survey to the Managing Director of SWR, as part of the preparation for the first major timetable review in more than 20 years.

The survey received more than 650 responses from local residents, with a clear message: passengers are frustrated by unreliable services, delays, cancellations, overcrowding, and timetables that have failed to return to pre-pandemic levels.

Residents in Hampton, Fulwell and Whitton reported some of the highest levels of dissatisfaction, highlighting infrequent trains, long waits between services and a lack of resilience when disruption occurs. Many respondents said that current services no longer reflect the needs of growing local communities.

In her submission to SWR, Munira has called for:

• The restoration of four trains per hour at Whitton, with services more evenly spaced throughout the day
• The reinstatement of Hounslow Loop services and/or additional Reading services stopping at Whitton
• An increase to at least four trains per hour at Hampton and Fulwell throughout the day, alongside improved peak-time and Sunday services
• Better reliability, passenger communications, accessibility and safety across the network

Munira Wilson MP said: “Residents have been clear that our rail services are not meeting the needs of our communities. People rely on these trains to get to work, education, appointments and connect with friends and family, yet too many are facing delays, cancellations and overcrowding.”

Reliable rail services are essential for our communities, our local economy and encouraging more sustainable travel.
