Lib Dems Demand Debate On TDRA Sewage Plans

TDRA

Local Lib Dem councillors, along with MP's Sarah Olney and Munira Wilson, continue to fight the TDRA for Richmond's residents.

Thames Water are seeking to build a pipeline on the Ham Lands, that will pump million of litres of treated sewage into the river, fundamentally altering the character and ecology of our stretch of river. The Thames is at the heart of our community, and is valued by the walkers, swimmers, anglers and rowers who use it every day.

The Liberal Democrats are opposed to Thames Water's Teddington Direct River Abstraction (TDRA) proposals, and will continue to use every tool available to protect our river and the Ham Lands. Thames Water has plunged itself into billions of pounds’ worth of debt, yet it’s customers who are paying the price.

Due to local pressure, Thames Water has changed plans and removed the intermediate shaft around Ham Playing Fields.

The Twickenham and Richmond Liberal Democrats have worked alongside SOLAR, which has drafted a petition to ensure the new sewage treatment infrastructure meets higher standards, as it does in the EU. Reaching 100,000 signatures will help secure a debate in Parliament. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/763721
